A Guide To Chainsaw Maintenance

Our Approach

I have been in training for well over 20 years (in varying disciplines) and I am a qualified teacher, trainer and assessor holding QTLS, BA(Hons) in Education and City & Guilds Assessing Land Based Skills qualification.

This mix of practical and academic experience means that I understand that you're likely to need support in one form or another; and that's exactly what you'll get!

Over the years, I have helped many learners with learning difficulties pass their assessments, and works closely with everyone to ensure that the training is built around the individual.

You can also be sure that you will be treated with respect and you'll find that I am totally non-judgmental  - I'm here to help you achieve your goals.

Drivelink Training carries Public Liability Insurance to £10m and Professional Indemnity Insurance. It's also listed on the UK Register of Learning Providers (UKPRN: 10062485) and is registered with the Information Commissioners Office.

Our Story

After spending nearly 9 years at Sparsholt College delivering forestry and arboriculture short courses, I left to start Drivelink Training (named after a component on the chainsaw chain) in 2013.

With Drivelink up and running, I was able to offer a wider range of courses and work more closely with clients. Since starting, I have gone on to write revision workbooks, magazine articles and the 131-page A Guide To Chainsaw Maintenance. I have also built up a relationship with Makita UK that means he can utilise their range of equipment for courses.

Drivelink Training can provide off-the-shelf and bespoke training leading to City & Guilds NPTC qualifications, in-house training at your site, tool-box talks, and refresher training.

I can assess your City & Guilds NPTC candidates and I am able to provide LOLER inspection and reporting services.

Forestry & Arboriculture

As well as the standard off-the-shelf courses shown on this website, I can provide training in brushcutters / trimmers, woodchippers and can source trainers for hedgecutting, mowing, ATV and FMO.

I can also build bespoke training courses based on your requirements as well as refresher training that builds upon your own experience.

City & Guilds

I am a qualified City & Guilds assessor and can independently assess your candidates. With some courses, I am able to carry out integrated assessments (felling over 380mm).

For courses run by Drivelink Training, I will select trusted independent assessors that I have worked with for several years. These assessors are used precisely because they excel at putting candidates at ease, their pragmatic take on life and their superb knowledge of the subject.

Inspection & Reporting

Whether you're one person operating as a self-employed climber, or a large organisation, you'll need your climbing and rigging equipment thoroughly examined every 6 or 12 months.

I can provide inspection and reporting to ensure that you meet the regulations and keep your gear in a safe, operating condition.
