FELLING OVER 380MM
FELLING AND PROCESSING MEDIUM OR LARGE TREES?
This Level 3 Award in Felling and Processing Trees Over 380mm [diameter] course is designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge to safely and effectively cope with felling oversized trees, where the diameter of the stem is greater than the length of the guide bar.
WHAT IS COVERED?
As well as relevant legislation, risk assessments and emergency planning, the course looks at the basic ‘bore and sweep’ technique for upright trees, as well as methods used for trees that are weighted either in the direction of fell, or against it.
The course also covers dealing with hung-up trees, setting and using a winch, breakdown of the canopy and cross-cutting to a site specification.
It is strongly advised that you some experience of felling before undertaking this course, in addition to the small fell course. Integrated or independent assessment is available for this course.
To undertake this Level 3 Award course, you must have successfully passed your NPTC assessments in:
- CS30 or the Level 2 Award in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross-cutting.
- CS31 or the Level 2 Award in Felling and Processing Trees Up To 380mm.
This intermediate course is a pre-requisite for the Level 3 Award in Severing Uprooted or Windblown Trees, and also the Level 3 Award in Assisted Fell Operations.
